Meet the Panelists:
Ziliang Deng is a Professor at the National School of Development, Peking University. Before joining Peking, he was a Professor at Renmin University of China. His research has focused on corporate global strategy in institutional complexity. His recent works have been published by Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of World Business, Journal of Business Ethics, among others. He serves as an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of International Business Studies, an Associate Editor of the Journal of International Management, and a Senior Editor of the Asia Pacific Journal of Management. He is chairing a Grand Project of the National Social Science Fund of China on U.S. Manufacturing Reshoring, and co-editing a special issue of the Journal of International Management on “New Globalization Featuring Off-shoring, Re-shoring, Near-shoring, and Friend-shoring”.
Han Jiang is an associate professor and presidential fellow at the School of Management and Economics, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen). His research focuses on corporate governance, global strategies, entrepreneurship, and quantitative research methods. His work has been widely published in leading academic journals, including Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Production and Operations Management, Journal of Management, Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, among others. He currently serves as the senior editor of Asia Pacific Journal of Management, and on the editorial review board of Strategic Management Journal and Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal.
Peter Ping Li is Professor of Chinese Business Studies at Copenhagen Business School, Denmark, chaired professor at Xiamen University and Dongbei University of Finance & Economics, China. He used to be Li Dak Sum Chair Professor of International Business at the University of Nottingham at Ningbo, Professor of Management at Xian Jiaotong-Liverpool University, Professor of Management at California State University, and also Research Director for the Greater China Region of US-based Center for Creative Leadership (CCL).His primary research focus is on building the geocentric (West-meeting-East) theories from the cultural and historical perspectives, especially applying the Chinese philosophy of wisdom to the development of holistic, dynamic and duality theories. He has been widely recognized as one of the global thought leaders in two fastest emerging research streams: (1) multinational firms from the emerging economies, and (2) indigenous research on the Chinese management. He is among the Stanford University List of World Top 2% Scholars in 2020-2023 (ranked 719 out of 52,318 in the field of Business & Management in 2023, one of the three scholars from China).
Nan Zhou is Professor at School of Economics and Management, Tongji University in China. She received a Ph.D. degree from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Her research addresses questions that intersect the felds of corporate strategy and international business, focusing primarily on understanding how strategic decisions of MNEs are infuenced by frm resources and institutional environments in the context of emerging markets.

Maoliang Bu is a Full Professor at Nanjing University and Adjunct Professor at the Hopkins-Nanjing Center, which is part of Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. His extensive research has been published in several leading academic journals, including the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS), Strategic Management Journal (SMJ) and Journal of Comparative Economics. Prof. Bu currently serves as an Editor for several prestigious journals such as Asia Pacific Journal of Management (APJM), Business & Society, and Journal of International Management.
Furthermore, Prof. Bu is also the Vice President for PACE (Professional Association for China’s Environment), and an affiliated researcher at Copenhagen Business School. He has held postdoc/visiting professor positions at various renowned universities such as University of Goettingen, University of Wuerzburg, University of Gothenburg, University of Groningen, and Western University (Ivey Business School). His exceptional academic record and contribution to the field have been recognized with a prestigious fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
Qian (Cecilia) Gu is an Associate Professor at J. Mack Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University. Her research interests lie at the intersection of strategy, international business, and entrepreneurship. Her research advances the understanding of how emerging-market firms navigate fast-evolving institutional environments, such as global competition, government intervention, and technological advancements, and how their strategic decisions influence firm performance. She has published in top journals such as Administrative Science Quarterly, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Organization Science, and Strategic Management Journal. Cecilia currently serves as the Associate Editor of the Global Strategy Journal, the Senior Editor of the Management and Organization Research and the Quarterly Management Journal. She also serves on the Editorial Boards of the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of World Business, and Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal.
