Hugh Courtney is the former Dean and current Professor of International Business & Strategy at Northeastern University’s D’Amore-McKim School of Business. Prior to joining Northeastern, he served as Vice Dean and Associate Dean of Executive Programs at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. He also spent nine years working for McKinsey & Company where he has a member of its Strategy Practice leadership team. Dr. Courtney is an expert on business strategy and competitive dynamics and has published widely in leading practitioner journals such as the Harvard Business Review and McKinsey Quarterly. His book on strategy under uncertainty, 20/20 Foresight: Crafting Strategy in an Uncertain World, was a business bestseller. Dr. Courtney is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Northwestern University and earned his Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he was a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellow.
