Sougata Ray is a Professor of Strategic Management and former Dean of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC), Visiting Scholar and Advisor of the Thomas Schmidheiny Centre for Family Enterprise of Indian School of Business. He has been researching extensively on how policy induced changes in institutional environment influence strategic behavior of emerging economy firms and ownership, heterogeneity of firm characteristics and strategic intent of the top management lead to variations in strategy and performance of firms. His most recent papers appeared in Organization Science, Journal of International Business Studies and Global Strategy Journal. Sougata conceived and has been leading the doctoral program in strategy at a IIMC and earlier played a strategic role in setting up the systematic innovation practices in Infosys Technologies Limited as the Head of Innovation Labs. Of late, he has been spearheading several research projects focusing on the areas of social entrepreneurship, corporate sustainability, Base of the Pyramid initiatives, and involvement of corporations in sustainable development. Sougata has been as an independent director in the Boards of Indian Oil and Tata Group Companies, an advisor to many medium and large corporations, family businesses and start ups and a consultant to leading International Development Agencies.
